Turkey's first domestic and national electric main line locomotive Eskişehir 5000 was presented to TCDD Tasimacilik at the "Railway Vehicles Delivery Ceremony" held at Hasanbey Logistics Facilities with the participation of Abdulkadir Uraloğlu, Minister of Transport and Infrastructure. In this important project, the high-tech subsystems developed by TÜBİTAK Rail Transportation Technologies Institute (RUTE) demonstrated the state of our national railway industry.

In his speech at the program, Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu emphasized Turkey's advanced technology and production capacity in the railway industry. Stating that many innovative vehicles such as high-speed train lines, electric locomotives, maneuvering vehicles and fire extinguishing wagons are produced with 100 percent domestic engineering and components, Uraloğlu said that these works make significant contributions to Turkey's technological independence and competitiveness in the global market. Uraloğlu also thanked TÜBİTAK RUTE for their engineering contributions to Eskişehir5000 and their successful work on the project.

High Technology, Indigenous Design: Critical Subsystems Developed by TÜBİTAK RUTE

TÜBİTAK RUTE's technology studies on Eskişehir5000 started within the scope of the KAMAG Project and progressed in a process leading to mass production. TÜBİTAK RUTE, which also carried out the prototype project of the locomotive, carried out the mechanical design and analysis studies of the vehicle as well as the engine, converter and control units and software.

Main systems integrated into the Eskişehir5000 locomotive by TÜBİTAK RUTE:

  • Traction Motor
  • Traction Converter
  • Train Control and Management System (TCMS)

These systems, which will serve in Eskişehir5000, were indigenously designed with advanced engineering infrastructure and produced with domestic facilities in line with the principles of performance, safety and sustainability. This success has been a strategic R&D activity that reduces foreign dependency in rail systems.

ESKİŞEHİR5000: "Symbol of Turkey's Rail System Vision"

Eskişehir5000, which incorporates TÜBİTAK RUTE technologies, was realized by TURASAŞ in its domestic production facilities in Eskişehir, Sakarya and Sivas and supported by the operating experience of TCDD Tasimacilik. Eskisehir5000, Turkey's first domestic and national mainline locomotive, will also provide versatile service with its hybrid structure suitable for both freight and passenger transportation.

Technical Specifications:

  • 5 MW continuous power capacity
  • 140 km/h top speed
  • European Union Railway Interoperability Certificate (TSI)
  • Four traction motors of 1,280 kW each - the most powerful motors ever developed in Turkey
A Major Contribution from TÜBİTAK RUTE to Turkey's Century Goals

Eskişehir 5000 is not only an engineering product, but also a national achievement shaped by the scientific competence of TÜBİTAK RUTE, contributing directly to Turkey's strategic independence goals.

As TÜBİTAK RUTE, we will continue our efforts to develop indigenous solutions in rail transportation systems within the scope of the National Technology Move and to produce integrated, competitive and sustainable technologies with industry collaborations.
