Signaling Systems Department

The Signaling Systems Department designs, develops, and commissions Traffic Control Center Systems, which manage train traffic with Interlocking Systems and CBTC Line ATC Systems that have CENELEC SIL4 safety integrity (EN50126, EN50128, EN50129, EN50159). This project group is the first and only in Türkiye to develop a domestic signaling system certified at the SIL4 safety integrity level for both mainlines and Urban Transit Lines.
  • To develop a railway signaling system that meets the requirements of our stakeholders, is compliant with international standards, scalable, flexible, cost-effective, and developed with domestic resources.

Projects / Products

CBTC SIL4 Line Signaling System

It is used in metro signaling systems. Türkiye's first and only domestic metro signaling system with SIL4 level safety integrity, supporting unmanned operation, GOA4. It has flexible interfaces that can drive field equipment (turnout motor, PSD, PESB, CESB) from different manufacturers.

  • Gayrettepe - Istanbul Airport: 9 stations
  • Istanbul Airport - Halkalı: 7 stations, 1 depot
  • Gebze - Darıca: 11 stations, 1 depot

ETCS Level 1 SIL4 Line Signaling System

It is used in mainline signaling systems. Türkiye's first and only domestic ETCS Level 1 Line Signaling system with SIL4 level safety integrity. With this system, it is expected to increase the performance and safety of mainline railway operations and achieve the interoperability goals of the European Union. It has flexible interfaces that can drive field equipment (signal, track circuit, axle counter, turnout motor, level crossing protection system, ATS, LEU, Balise) from different manufacturers.

  • Torbalı - Tire - Ödemiş: 70 km, 11 stations

SIL4 Mainline Signaling System

It is used in mainline signaling systems. Türkiye's first domestic interlocking system with SIL4 level safety integrity. It is utilized in projects involving the installation of signaling on non-signaled railway lines and the renewal of outdated interlocking systems at the end of their service life. It has flexible interfaces that can drive field equipment (signal, track circuit, axle counter, turnout motor, level crossing protection system, ATS) from different manufacturers.

  • Afyonkarahisar - Denizli - Isparta: 350 km, 33 stations
  • Ortaklar - Denizli: 150 km, 14 stations
  • Malatya - Elazığ: 116 km, 10 stations
  • Gezin – Kürk: 2 stations

Traffic Control Center Modernization

It is used in mainline signaling systems. Developed in accordance with the expectations of every level TCDD user according to relevant regulations, it is Türkiye's railway traffic control center. It can operate both with TÜBİTAK interlocking systems and interlocking systems from different manufacturers. Its easily scalable structure provides centralized, regional, and local control capabilities.

  • Iskenderun - Narlı: 191 km, 20 stations
  • Lalabel - Yerköy: 167 km, 16 stations

R&D

Strategic Objectives

  • To break the monopoly of foreign companies operating in the signaling sector in our country by developing local and independent technology.
  • To provide economic added value by minimizing high costs and project durations.
  • To contribute to the national technological development and economic growth ecosystem.
  • To become a domestic manufacturer that produces products at international standards for railway signaling and all subsystems.
  • To serve as the main contractor and partner in meeting the R&D needs of TCDD (Turkish State Railways).
  • To act as a knowledge transfer center for systems/technologies acquired by TCDD from abroad with technology transfer conditions.
  • To perform Signaling System studies at ETCS Level 1/2 SIL4 safety integrity level.

R&D

Objectives

  • To develope systems that are safe, cost-effective, low in update/maintenance costs, based on Commercial Off-The-Shelf (COTS) hardware, and meeting the requirements set by Urban Network Operators and users at all levels of TCDD, to promote widespread use in signal-free areas.
