Signaling Systems Department

The Signaling Systems Department designs, develops and commissions Interlocking Systems and CBTC Trackside ATC Systems with CENELEC SIL4 safety integrity (EN50126, EN50128, EN50129, EN50159) and Traffic Control Center Systems for the management of train traffic. It is the project group that developed the first and only indigenous signaling system certified at SIL4 safety integrity level on main lines and urban lines in Turkey.
  • To develop a railway signaling system that meets the requirements of our stakeholders, complies with international standards, is expandable, flexible, cost-effective and developed with domestic resources.

Projects / Products

CBTC SIL4 Line Signaling System

It is used in metro signaling systems. GOA4 is Turkey's first and only domestic metro signaling system with SIL4 safety integrity level, supporting unmanned driving. It has flexible interfaces that can drive field equipment (switch motor, PSD, PESB, CESB) from different manufacturers.

  • Gayrettepe - Istanbul Airport: 9 stations
  • Istanbul Airport - Halkali: 7 stations, 1 depot
  • Gebze - Darica: 11 stations, 1 depot

ETCS Level 1 SIL4 Line Signaling System

It is used in main line signaling systems. It is Turkey's first and only indigenous ETCS Level 1 Line-Length Signaling system with SIL4 safety integrity level. With this system, it is expected to increase the performance and safety of main line railway operations and to meet the European Union interoperability target. It has flexible interfaces that can drive field equipment (signal, track circuit, axle counter, switch motor, level crossing protection system, ATS, LEU, Baliz) from different manufacturers.

  • Torbali - Tire - Ödemiş: 70 km, 11 stations

SIL4 Mainline Signaling System

It is used in main line signaling systems. It is Turkey's first indigenous interlocking system with SIL4 safety integrity level. It is used both in the equipping of unsignalized railway lines and in the renewal of old interlocking systems that have completed their service life. It has flexible interfaces that can drive field equipment (signal, track circuit, axle counter, switch motor, level crossing protection system, ATS) from different manufacturers.

  • Afyonkarahisar - Denizli - Isparta: 350 km, 33 stations
  • Ortaklar - Denizli: 150 km, 14 stations
  • Malatya - Elazig: 116 km, 10 stations
  • Navigate - Fur: 2 stations

Traffic Control Center Modernization

It is used in main line signaling systems. It is Turkey's railway traffic control center, which has been developed in accordance with the expectations of every level TCDD user according to the relevant regulations. It can work together with both TÜBİTAK interconnection systems and interconnection systems of different manufacturers. With its easily scalable structure, it provides central, regional and local control.

  • Iskenderun - Narli: 191 km, 20 stations
  • Lalabel - Yerkoy: 167 km, 16 stations

R&D

Strategic Objectives

  • To break the monopoly of foreign companies operating in the field of signaling in our country and to develop domestic and independent technology.
  • Providing economic added value by minimizing high costs and project durations.
  • To contribute to the ecosystem of technological development and economic growth at the national level.
  • To be a domestic manufacturer that produces products at international standards for railway signaling and all subsystems.
  • To be the main contractor and business partner in meeting the R&D needs of TCDD.
  • To be a knowledge transfer center for the systems/technologies that TCDD purchases from abroad under the condition of technology transfer.
  • Performing Signaling System studies at ETCS Level 1/2 SIL4 safety integrity level.

R&D

Objectives

  • To develop systems that are safe, cost-effective, low update/maintenance cost, based on COTS hardware, and whose requirements are determined by Urban Line Operators and users at all levels of TCDD, and to extend them in unsignalized areas.
