The "National Train Control and Management System" project, developed through the collaboration of TÜBİTAK Rail Transportation Technologies Institute (RUTE) and TÜRASAŞ, has achieved significant success at the 8th “Intelligent Transportation Awards.” Powered by a strong team and advanced technological efforts, the project was honored with the "Türkiye Special Award" by ITS Türkiye.
This prestigious award was presented to TÜBİTAK RUTE Director Dr. Tolgahan Kaya and TÜRASAŞ General Manager Selim Koçbay by Selim Yazıcı, President of the Directorate for Transport, Maritime Affairs and Communications Research Center (UAB). The recognition highlighted not only the progress Türkiye has made in intelligent transportation technologies but also the added value our institute contributes to the sector.
During the event, which brought together representatives from the public and private sectors as well as academia, TÜBİTAK RUTE showcased its work and innovative projects in the field of intelligent transportation systems at its dedicated booth. Reinforcing its commitment to developing sustainable, safe, and efficient transport solutions, the institute received high praise from participants.
Karaismailoğlu and Sayan Visit TÜBİTAK RUTE Booth
On the first day of the two-day program, Deputy Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Fatih Sayan visited the TÜBİTAK RUTE booth. On the second day, former Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Adil Karaismailoğlu also visited and was briefed on the institute’s ongoing work.
The conference served as a critical platform for strengthening sectoral cooperation through ITS Türkiye and for reinforcing Türkiye’s vision in intelligent transportation systems. Bringing together public and private sector representatives as well as academics, Conf-ITS’25 was noted as a key event that supports Türkiye’s progress and collaboration in smart mobility solutions.
What Does the National Train Control and Management System (MTYKS) Do?
Developed by the engineering expertise of TÜBİTAK RUTE, the system enables the control, operation, management, and monitoring of all on-board train components. By tracking train speed, location, and movement in real time, MTYKS minimizes operational risks. Automated control mechanisms also prevent driver-induced errors before they occur.
Thanks to MTYKS, railway operations become more centralized and digitalized, while real-time monitoring and data analytics capabilities enhance both performance and safety.
Developed entirely with domestic hardware and software resources, MTYKS not only reduces Türkiye’s dependency on foreign technologies in the railway sector but also contributes to the creation of a more comfortable, safe, and efficient transportation infrastructure.
