The opening of the Gayrettepe-Kağıthane Metro Line, the final link of the Gayrettepe-Istanbul Airport Metro Line, was carried out by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. President Erdoğan, in his speech highlighting the convenience the line will provide to Istanbulites, also mentioned that the signaling systems were developed by TÜBİTAK and stated, "We continue to equip Istanbul with uninterrupted, comfortable, domestic, and national rail systems."
Travel Time Between Istanbul Airport and Taksim Reduced to 41 Minutes
With the new line in operation, travel times will be reduced to 30 minutes for Gayrettepe-Istanbul Airport, 38 minutes for Göktürk-Mahmutbey, 45 minutes for Tekstilkent-Istanbul Airport, 41 minutes for Taksim-Istanbul Airport, 26 minutes for Taksim-Göktürk, and 35 minutes for 4th Levent-Istanbul Airport.
TÜBİTAK RUTE's Signature on the Signaling Systems of the Line
Signaling systems that ensure the safe management of railway traffic increase safety by preventing collisions and derailments. Efforts to domestically produce these systems, which have been imported from abroad for many years in Turkey, are continuing unabated. Under the slogan "Leading in Mobility Transformation," TÜBİTAK RUTE's "Domestic Signal" projects are taking critical steps in the development and localization of mainline and metro signaling systems.
Domestic systems developed for mainline signaling have been put into operation in collaboration with TCDD, while domestic metro signaling systems, developed in collaboration with TÜBİTAK RUTE and Aselsan, have been certified and actively put into use.
The section of the Gayrettepe – Istanbul New Airport metro line from Kağıthane to Istanbul Airport is successfully operated using the Domestic Signaling-CBTC WSATC system.
With the extension of the line to Halkalı, the metro line, consisting of a total of 66 km and 16 stations, has been signalized to allow speeds of up to 120 km/h.
